The Newsroom Summit 2019, Oslo, Norway

How can editors contribute to quality in science journalism? As part of the QUEST research project on science communication, VIU will lead a workshop for editors about the coverage of climate change during The Newsroom Summit 2019. The Summit is organized by WAN-IFRA, the World Association of News Publishers, partner of QUEST project.

A brainstorming workshop on how newsrooms can improve their coverage of the current climate crisis: editors will learn about the main shortcomings in climate crisis communication today, share their own perspectives and experiences, and actively improve the quality of reporting with concrete examples.
During one hour, Editors will be able to learn by participating in a practical workshop, and provide insights based on their own experiences. The results will contribute to the design of a QUEST toolkit for Journalists.
Climate change is one of the case studies addressed by QUEST, alongside Vaccines and AI.

The workshop has been designed and will be guided by Jacopo Pasotti, part of the VIU team in QUEST. Jacopo is an award-winning journalist, photographer and writer. His work focuses on environmental and social reporting. (His contributions have been published in National Geographic, GEO, The Huffington Post, La Repubblica, Vanity Fair, El Pais, Deutsche Welle, and Science, among others. He lectures on science and environmental reporting at the Erice International School of Science Journalism, and has been giving workshops on media skills for scientists for more than a decade).
