VIU News

Venice International University and the MUHAI Project were cooperating partners in the workshop on Archives and AI: Coping with Climate Change, held at VIU premises on the San Servolo Campus on May 22-24, 2021.

The event was held in occasion of the launch of the exhibition entitled "Navigating Aqua Granda, a digital community memory", within the framework of "Aqua Granda, a digital community memory" project, launched in November 2020 by the EU H2020 ODYCCEUS project and Science Gallery Venice.

One of main outputs of this project is a book, available in open access at the following link: https://bit.ly/3bVUJ8n

The QUEST Project proudly announces the launch of the QUEST Podcast, a series of conversations with leading science communication professionals around Europe. The main goal is to learn about the challenges and current trends that impact their work, and hear their advice on how other science communicators can improve the effectiveness of their communication activities. Over the course of the six episodes, a particular focus is given on views from female science researchers and specialist science and technology journalists.

The QUEST project has recently released its toolkits: new resources to support communication about science.

The toolkits were developed to fill in a gap that was identified in the European science communication landscape; the analysis showed that science communicators would benefit from additional resources that support the development of their skill sets.

The Closing Ceremony of the 2nd semester 2021 of the Globalization Program will take place on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at 5.00 pm, in a dual mode ( in presence and on zoom).

At the end of May, more than 100 students of 18 nationalities will conclude their semester of courses at VIU.

As the Covid-19 restrictions start to ease, we can begin to think of travel again and look forward to opportunities next year!

VIU will soon issue a new round of Erasmus+ calls for application for study, teaching, and training opportunities in the member universities in the EU, UK,  Israel, Russia, and Canada. Students, professors, and staff in VIU's Italian member universities are eligible to apply.

The paper entitled “Experimenting with scenario-building narratives to integrate land use and transport”, published in Transport Policy Journal, followed a methodology inspired by the one used in SPROUT for the construction of the scenarios of the pilot cities. Different narratives of the future were constructed based on some “drivers” of change and through a process of interviews.

These narratives described the future of transport, mobility, and land use in 2050. They were used in several collaborative workshops in which policy-makers, transport and urban planners, and members from the public were involved, in a similar way to the SPROUT Open Innovation Community.

The first edition of the Urbanism Next Europe Conference will take place online June 9 -11, 2021.
The SPROUT project will feature with a dedicated session, involving the members of its stakeholder forum, the Open Innovation Community for Urban Mobility Policy.

Urbanism Next Europe Conference is organized in collaboration with the city of Rotterdam, Netherlands, and it will gather experts from the public and private sectors, transport and economy, urban planning and architecture, retail and real estate, environment, and public health.

The conference sessions will feature: experiments and transition, spatial planning & urban design, new mobility impacts, car-sharing and micromobility, automated driving.

ITL, Lead Partner of the ICARUS Project, has organized "Maas Talks",  three webinars about Mobility as a Service,  on May 13, May 27, and June 9, 2021.

A three-webinar journey will explore the potential of the integration of a range of sustainable transport options into a single mobility service accessible and on-demand, by answering questions such as “what are the main social, environmental, and economic benefits of MaaS?” and “how to select the most effective MaaS model for your territory”.

Project Partners are taking action to reduce the CO2 emission and to enhance the Ports Management.

North-Central Adriatic Sea Port System Authority acquired an electric car in January 2021. The car has already travelled for more than 1.500km and is appreciated by the colleagues that used it for it's prompt reaction during the drive and for the complete absence of noise. It is in preparation a tender for a second car, that will be a hybrid plug-in. The purchase of this cars will allow them to further reduce the C02 emissions and to travel in a more sustainable and comfortable way.

The Central Adriatic Ports Authority developed a TV spot about its participation in PROMARES now on air on a regional TV channel and on the radio. Communicating and disseminating the project's results to the general public is an important aspect of participating in EU-funded projects.

The ad describes the aims of participation in the project is aired on a regional TV channel and on the radio. Check it out on the project's Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn profile! (in Italian only)

This year - 2021 - marks the 1600th anniversary of the foundation of Venice and the City will be celebrating with an exciting program of events organized and promoted by the local authorities, institutions and associations. Venice International University will contribute with a series of initiatives during the course of the year.

Within the ICARUS Project Central Europe Initiative and ITL Foundation are carrying out the activities connected to the Enlarged Transfer Programme (ETP).

The Enlarged Transfer Programme (ETP) is a training programme of the ICARUS project, where non-partner institutions can get insights and specific training on mobility issues. ICARUS partners will share their experience and knowledge to support the ETP participants in developing light action plans, focused on sustainable mobility solutions to improve cross-border connections between Italy and Croatia.
