The uniqueness of the Sprout project lies in the large pool of cooperating cities, created through an exceptional 3-layer structure. Since our kick-off meeting in September 2019, research partners have been working closely with cities to understand their mobility challenges. Since the project began 7 months ago, in an effort to ensure a city-led policy response, SPROUT pilot cities held their first local workshops, sitting together with different actors dealing with new mobility services. This is the first step of a process to create engagement and a common vision across cities’ stakeholders. Learn about the project, read some takeaways from the Project workshops, and join the Open Innovation Community: the first edition of the SPROUT newsletter is out now.

Peripheral Access | Smart Mobility |

Peripheral areas such as rural, remotely located or border regions make up 93 percent of EU territory. These scarcely populated regions are all facing similar challenges: poor public transport connections, small budgets, demographic change, and high levels of unsustainable, exclusive and costly private car use. VIU is one of 9 partners in the Peripheral Access project which has analyzed this situation in detail at the EU and partner level, deriving concrete action plans, and implementing innovative pilot actions. VIU's role has been in the development and testing of IT solutions for smart mobility. A highlight for the VIU team was last summer when the SmartBus on-demand public transport service went on the road in Trieste, Italy. The Peripheral Access end-of-project conference is on May 26, 2020.

ICARUS Training Webinar: May 26, 2020, 2:30 - 3:30 PM CEST. Join us and learn from Prof. Patrick Rérat, University of Lausanne, Switzerland, who will speak about spatial organization and mobility patterns. The ICARUS project focuses on the improvement of passenger intermodal transport connections by easing coast-hinterland sustainable accessibility. The project is testing smart mobility solutions through pilot activities based on territorial analysis of current gaps and needs. ICARUS also promotes behavioral change campaigns and the development of local authority planning capacities.
