	VIU is pleased to announce the addition of two prestigious institutions to the consortium: IUSS Pavia, Italy, and Sabancı University, Turkey. This significant expansion marks a pivotal moment as VIU approaches its thirty-year anniversary, and continues to grow and develop global engagement, further solidifying its position as a hub for interdisciplinary education, research, and collaboration. 	Science Communication at VIU


	Science communication has entered the public debate at different levels: it supports the societal dimension of science, levers significant funding opportunities for research, and contributes to building a successful dialogue with decision-makers. 	Equipping Researchers with Skills, Strategies and Confidence for Science Communication, VIU Spring School, March 18-21, 2024


	This week we are hosting 24 international PhD and Master students, researchers and Postdocs who were selected from a variety of research disciplines to attend the 5-day Spring School coordinated by the VIU unit on Science Communication with VIU members Stellenbosch, University of Padova, and Ludwig Maximilians Universität. 	COALESCE: Building the European Competence Center for Science Communication, Horizon Europe project, 2023-2027


	Within the COALESCE project that works to build a European Competence Center for Science Communication, VIU is leading the creation of its associated Science Communication Academy, to consolidate science communication knowledge, resources and tools from a variety of sources. All actors are invited to join the COPs-Community of Practice and co-create this virtual space, where knowledge will be collected and shared. Read more #Coalesce #SciComm #VIUResearch

	Joint Statement on Science Communication for University Governance


	At the Symposium in September 2023, a Concluding Statement was issued to draw attention to the need for research and academic institutions to consider the strategic value of public communication of science, and to mobilize support for these activities. 	Communicating Science to the Public: Transversal Skills at the VIU Intensive Graduate Activities


	Science communication is one of those skills that have not necessarily been part of researchers' disciplinary curriculum: more and more researchers find themselves communicating their research to a wide audience, as is the case with social media. Read more #SciComm #VIUGraduate #TransversalSkills

Open Calls

Erasmus Mobility to Stellenbosch University
Calls have been published for both students and staff of select Erasmus+ VIU mobility consortium members to apply for mobility to Stellenbosch University. The types of mobilities include staff mobility for teaching and staff mobility for training as well as student short term doctoral mobilities.

The deadline to apply is March 31, 2024.

Summer Institute on Ageing | The Value of Longitudinal Data to Study Ageing
June 3-7, 2024. The Summer Institute provides the opportunity to explore multidisciplinary perspectives in the study of ageing based on longitudinal surveys, and to discuss the issue of genetics and biomarkers. Applications are sought from Graduates, PhD students and post-doc scholars in economics, statistics, social sciences and medicine, but also professionals active in the field of ageing.
25 fee-waiver scholarships are available, accommodation included!
