on Wednesday: VIULecture: The Paradox of Change: Women's Liberation and Feminization of Poverty
American Feminist Movement: Prof. William Chafe taught at VIU in 2007 and returns on October 16 for a guest lecture on the feminist movement in the US. Chafe is Alice Mary Baldwin Professor of History, Emeritus, at Duke University. He is author and editor of thirteen books. His work has focused on civil rights history, women's history, and modern political history.

on Friday morning and afternoon: 1st Lecture of the Art History series on the Sistine Chapel by Dr. Paolieri
Dr. Paolieri will give two introductory lectures at VIU which will develop the following contents: "Michelangelo and 16th Century Rome", "The Sistine Chapel" and "Conservation and Restoration". During the mid-term break students will have the chance to take an 8-day trip to Florence, Naples and Rome. While in Rome, Dr. Paolieri will give a guided tour of the Sistine Chapel, one of the most extraordinary masterpieces of Michelangelo's oeuvre.
