Japan Week in Venice is a program of events of institutional, economic, environmental and cultural nature taking place in Venice from August 27 to September 6, 2019.
The program is organized by the Italy-Japan Foundation, with the support of the Mayor of Venice, Mr. Luigi Brugnaro, and the support of Venice International University, and its President, Amb. Umberto Vattani.
The rich and varied program of cultural events, business meetings and a scientific workshop aim to develop and strengthen the bilateral relations between Italy and Japan.
Highlights
THURSDAY 5 SEPTEMBER
9.30 am Meeting of business representatives from Italy and Japan, with the participation of the Mayor of Venice and Japanese Authorities, at Ca' Vendramin Calergi
Organized in collaboration with the Japanese Embassy in Italy
1.45 pm Meeting of students from Ca’ Foscari University and Japanese business representatives
3.30 pm Press conference and workshop on the “Hydrogen Revolution” - Mestre, Town Hall, Via Palazzo.

FRIDAY 6 SEPTEMBER
6.30 pm Island of San Servolo – campus of Venice International University
Vernissage of the exhibition “Fragility” by Uemon Ikeda, curated by Architect Olimpia de Sanctis, in collaboration with San Servolo – Servizi Metropolitani di Venezia
To follow Award Ceremony: the Italy Japan Foundation will be giving special awards to three personalities from Italy and Japan for their contribution towards developing relations between the two Nations

The Japan Week in Venice takes place during the same period as the Venice Film Festival, which includes strong participation from Japan with 5 productions, including the opening film "The Truth" by Hirokazu Koreeda on Wednesday 28 August.
There will also be exhibitions of Japanese Photography at the Musei Civici di Venezia, an exhibition of hand-painted Japanese porcelain at the Hotel Excelsior, Lido di Venezia, and a performance of Puccini's "Madama Butterfly" at the Teatro La Fenice featuring stage and costume designs by the Japanese artist Mariko Mori.
