60 students spent the month of August at VIU taking courses for credit for their bachelor's and master's degrees.

This was the second edition of the Summer Session of the Globalization Program, introduced in 2022 with the aim of extending the opportunities to study and teach at VIU, especially to those students who otherwise face barriers to participation in mobility opportunities during the semester-long programs, be it for socio-economic challenges, caring responsibilities, insufficient opportunities in their disciplinary area, or challenges receiving credit recognition for interdisciplinary studies.

At the heart of the Globalization Program, in both semester and summer iterations, is the deeply enriching experience among the participants, characterized by three keywords: international, intercultural, and interdisciplinary.  These aspects permeate the interactions in the classroom, where each person brings to the discussions their own perspective, based on their disciplinary, cultural, and experiential background, in both peer-to-peer exchange and student-instructor engagement. The courses were taught by professors from Exeter, Stellenbosch, KU Leuven, and Ca' Foscair. The co-curricular and social activities provided additional enriching opportunities to the participants.

5 courses were available, each equivalent to 6 ECTS:

  • Interactive Data Visualization
  • Decolonizing Science
  • The Play of Water in the Mediterranean
  • Africa: Postcoloniality and the Modern World
  • Romantic Love in Japan and Europe
