On April 22, 2022, the Assembly of Members of VIU voted unanimously to re-elect Ambassador Umberto Vattani as President of the association for a 7th term. Since Ambassador Vattani joined VIU as President in 2001, he has overseen the growth and expansion of this young institution from eight member universities to twenty in 2020.

President Vattani graciously accepted the renewed nomination, and thanked the members, adding:

"Venice International University continues to grow, day after day, and to broaden the scope of its topics to address the global issues of today. It is a pride and an honour to be a part of this unique Institution and to lead such an extraordinary team".

PROMARES aims at tackling the challenges hampering the full-fledged development of the potential for maritime and multimodal freight transport in
the Programme Area. Its main objective is therefore to enhance cross-border maritime and multimodal freight transport by involving transport stakeholder and policy makers facing the same cross-border challenges, from both a strategic and operational perspective, through the increased cooperation among them. 

PROMARES | Promoting maritime and multimodal freight transport in the Adriatic Sea is a research project funded by the Interreg Italy-Croatia Program. 
The Promares Network is led by the Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea and involves 12 partners and it is led by the Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea.

SPROUT project:
presentation of the results of the test phase of a new model of sustainable and flexible transport called “NEXT"

NEXT combines a set of electric modular vehicles and innovative technology to manage transport demand. The modular vehicles can travel individually or in convoy and they do not require dedicated infrastructure.

The MUHAI project partners convened for a three-day meeting in Paris, organized by Sony Computer Science Laboratories Paris at the Irish Cultural Centre, on March 14-16, 2022.

Dean Lewis, aged 56, Professor of electronics, was elected President of the University of Bordeaux by the Executive Board on January 24, 2022.

Faced with the suffering of so many innocent people, Venice International University hopes that hostilities will be stopped as soon as possible.

On the occasion of International Women's Day, we are pleased to introduce you to the awesome women teaching this semester at VIU in the Globalization Program. 

Their research spans a range of disciplines from international law, economics, sociology, sociolinguistics, linguistics, urban studies, history and theory of fashion, on topics including: gender-based violence against women; gender, sexuality and society; gendered families; single life and friendships; women, welfare and urban studies; sustainable development; science communication, natural resource economics and energy.

Animesh Gain, Research Fellow at Università Ca' Foscari Venezia

On February 14, the semester kicked off with the arrival of 120 students to San Servolo for the Globalization Program. Students from Italy, Germany, France, Belgium, UK, Slovenia, Russia, Israel, USA and Japan are taking courses in a range of themes related to Italy, Global Challenges, Environmental Management and Sustainable Development, Cities and Global Change and Environmental Humanities.

The partners of the SMACH project conclude that cultural heritage isn’t only preserved by improving and expanding knowledge of available technologies and the historical-archaeological research, but also by raising awareness and engaging citizens in the process, with the ultimate goal of adopting a holistic approach to cultural heritage management.

This project was very successful, and sparked a much needed conversation on the issues linked to climate change and cultural heritage preservation, and consolidated the network of collaboration between Italy and Balkan countries.

During the Zoom meeting on January 17, information was given about the Globalization Program, about course registration, housing, and VIU covid-19 protocols.
