The unprecedented threat of climate change is posing a severe risk to human activities, due to the increasing frequency and magnitude of extreme events.
VIU is carrying out research defining a Socio‐Economic Regional Risk Assessment (SERRA) for the Belluno Province in partnership with Enel Foundation, and the Euro‐Mediterranean Centre for Climate Change (CMCC).
The study, coordinated by Carlo Giupponi of VIU, and Paola Mercogliano (CMCC) concentrates on the Belluno area, and aims to formulate an accurate evaluation of the specific risks faced in the area.
The research was presented to stakeholders in Belluno on October 13, during an event organized by Confindustria Belluno Dolomiti on the management of climate impacts for local development on the occasion of the 2021 International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction.
The methodology uses a multi‐hazard approach that combines classical spatial risk assessment and socio‐economic analysis and valuation to estimate damage associated with potential risks of different kinds and magnitude. The study identifies, qualitatively and quantitatively, the hazards threatening the area, its production activity, and all those receptors that are directly or indirectly exposed to them, at a residential, industrial, infrastructural, logistical, and productive level.
