9 am - 1 pm | Room 1G
The plenary workshop is a key VIU event in which professors and students of the Globalization Program explore and discuss a theme chosen together at the beginning of the semester.
This semester the theme will be Persona.
Here is how the RED students presented the selected theme:
A persona is the outward personality or image that a person presents to the world, shaped by cultural background, personal experiences, and societal expectations. It can be viewed as the mask or role individuals adopt in different social settings, often differing from their true inner selves. Connecting this to the Biennale theme of "Foreigners Everywhere," we are prompted to ask: how much do we alter our persona to fit in, and how does this impact our sense of identity? For students and faculty from diverse backgrounds interacting at VIU, has your persona ever shifted in your lives, and what does fitting in mean for our understanding of identity? Additionally, how do narratives in literature, films, and other mediums explore the concept of persona?
Participants will offer their interpretation of an aspect of this theme, working as a class group or on their own, taking inspiration from what has come out of the program of the courses they are attending or presenting their personal experience.
The program will include performances, dialogues, music and dances with the participation of VIU GP students and professors.
Some talks, presentations and videos will stem from the courses taught by:
Massimo Brunzin, Carola Drago and Laura Ventruto (Venice International University)
Sara Garfield (Université de Bordeaux )
Natalie Göltenboth (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität)
Danielle Hipkins (University of Exeter)
Robert Savage (Boston College)
Maria Gourieva (European University at Saint Petersburg)
Mitsuru Yamada (Waseda University)
Kirsten Stirling (Université de Lausanne)
The detailed program will be soon published in a box at the side of the page.
The Plenary Workshop is a unique opportunity to recognize the VIU community as one, breaking the borders between the courses, training students to address topics of the disciplines taught to a broader audience, revealing the hidden talents of the participants, and forging multicultural and transgenerational bonds.
After the workshop, all participants are invited to a light lunch sponsored by VIU.
