VIU, through its TEN Program on Sustainability, is partner in EUCLID – EU-China Lever for IPM Demonstration, which was launched at the kick off meeting held at the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA) in Sophia-Antipolis, France, on September 28-29, 2015.

EUCLID is a four-year Research and Innovation Action funded by the European Commission under Horizon 2020. The objective is to secure food production for the increasing worldwide population while developing sustainable production methodologies to fight pests with an Integrated Pest Management approach (IPM), to be used in the European and Chinese agriculture.

EUCLID research activity aims at developing more sustainable pest management methods in Europe and China in order to reduce the negative effects of pesticides on human health and the environment, to reduce economic losses in agriculture, and to provide scientific support to EU and China policies.

Tomatoes, leaf vegetables and grapes are the main crops of research, due to their economic relevance in the targeted markets; however, research outcomes will also have an impact on other crops. In addition, the project will consider the entire food product chain from agriculture to the final consumers.

18 partners from 7 countries – Italy, France, UK, Spain, Belgium, Sweden, China – form EUCLID project consortium, which have been selected as to integrate in the project different experiences, including universities, research institutions, SMEs, retailers, in order to reach a variety of stakeholders such as farmers, consumers, policy-makers, scientists and entrepreneurs.

VIU is leader of WP5 – Dissemination, carrying out also research activity aimed at developing recommendations for EU and Chinese policy-makers, farmers and companies to support the entrance in the market of the proposed IPM packages. VIU is directly involved also in WP3 – Assessment by and support to project’s end-users through research activities. In particular, it contributed to the Task 3.1 - Identification of indicators for economic competitiveness and feasibility, environmental sustainability,Identification of indicators for economic competitiveness and feasibility, environmental sustainability,consumer’ preferences and policy needs, carrying out the iterature review of existing indicators. VIU is also Leader of Task 3.4 – Knowledge for policies, stimulating farmers and consumers’ acceptance, supporting business development, that aimed at developing and consolidating knowledge to support policies, farmers and consumers. Within this task, it carried out a survey on consumers' perception of IPM and interviews to the different stakeholders.
