The SMACH Forum project is set to create a vibrant Europe-Southeast Europe platform for intercultural exchange on Sustainable Management of Cultural Heritage. Co-funded by the Central European Initiative, this innovative project is spearheaded by VIU, alongside partners such as the University of Ljubljana, CNR, University of Rome Tor Vergata, and the City of Venice.
The project's reach extends to several beneficiary countries, including Serbia, with the University of Belgrade as a partner, Montenegro (University of Montenegro), Bosnia and Herzegovina (University Sarajevo School of Science and Technology), and North Macedonia (Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje).
Launched in Venice last April, SMACH Forum is the successor to the SMACH project (2021-2022), which established a robust EU-SEE network and knowledge exchange program on sustainable cultural heritage management in the Balkans, particularly in response to climate change.
SMACH Forum is now advancing this mission by developing a comprehensive EU-SEE strategy that fosters collaboration in research, management, and policy for cultural heritage amidst climate challenges. By uniting experts and leveraging existing EU research and policy platforms, the Forum aims to enhance intercultural exchange and collaboration on sustainable cultural heritage management throughout the region.
The ultimate goal of the SMACH Forum is to promote and sustain these invaluable intercultural connections, ensuring the preservation and resilient management of cultural heritage across Europe and Southeast Europe.
