As the MUHAI project approaches its final phase, with completion set for March 2025, the focus shifts to evaluating its impact and charting future directions in human-centric AI research.
The 3-day meeting, hosted at Venice International University (VIU) from September 12-14, will delve into these critical topics.
VIU is leading MUHAI Communication and Dissemination activities. Bringing AI to a public of non-experts has certainly been a challenge, especially as MUHAI investigates highly technical and sometimes niche contents. However, the heart of MUHAI research is 'Meaning', 'Understanding', 'Language', 'Memory', these are words and concepts that belong in everyone's world. That's why we created a real glossary of AI terms that uses everyday language in a computer/AI context, in order to better explain AI research and to bring it closer to people. Check out the #Word of the Month communication campaign to know more.
Also, art and images are precious tools to communicate about AI and to engage with the public, both with peers and non peers. We think however that traditional images can better constitute an AI narrative than AI-generated images. That's why we adopted the famous and beautiful Mantegna's tarots to illustrate how our scientists see the Future of AI. We asked them what they look forward to in AI development and what scares them in the future of artificial intelligence: check their views and enjoy MUHAI Mantegna's Future AI tarots series.
MUHAI major achievements are registered in the scientific community as MUHAI researchers published an impressive number of scientific papers, and presented them in a number of AI events and conferences around the world. If you are science-thirsty you can visit the dedicated 'Paper' section in MUHAI website, where you'll also find the first of the three volumes gathering the main research outputs. Volume 2 will be published right after the meeting.
Luc Steels, one of the most distinguished scholars in Artificial Intelligence, scientifically coordinates the project as part of the VIU team, in collaboration with Prof. Rainer Malaka and Robert Porzel from the Center for Computing Technologies (TZI) of the University of Bremen. SONY Computer Science Lab in Paris, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VUA), Vrije Universiteit Bruxelles (VUB), and the Université de Namur (UNamur) are the academic partners of the project. APICBASE is the medium-sized company partnering in MUHAI, active in the food industry. Cooking is in fact one of the application domains of the AI researched in MUHAI.
As VIU we look forward to continuing the collaboration on AI topics. If you are a VIU Member and wish to initiate a project or any activity related to AI and/or AI communication, or if you are interested to know more about MUHAI project please contact Alessandra Fornetti, Executive Director of the TEN Program at alessandra.fornetti@univiu.org.
