The recent publication of the annual Times Higher Education - World University rankings confirms the academic excellence and prestigious reputation of the VIU Member Universities.
Five out of the eleven Universities which constitute the VIU network ranked among the top 200 Universities in the world:

# 048 LMU
# 052 Tsinghua University
# 150 Boston College
# 158 Tel Aviv University
Under the Presidency of Ambassador Vattani the University of Padua has joined VIU this year.
The University of Padua is the second oldest University in Italy. Along with such Universities as Bologna, Paris, Oxford and Cambridge, that of Padua was one of the first to exemplify the idea of a Gymnasium Omnium Disciplinarum.
Today, the University of Padua covers all fields of academic teaching and research and it is very active in the field of international cooperation.
In the past years VIU and its Members Universities have joined in several initiatives with Padua. A new project, the Digital Workshop Space, Time and City, Training and Teaching in a Digital Laboratory is about to start involving experts and professors of the Iuav University of Venice, Duke University and the University of Padua.
The aim of the Residency Scholarship program is to promote excellence and academic and cultural diversity in the Globalization Program. Student recipients of the scholarship are expected to actively contribute to the intercultural exchange among students through the promotion and participation in the academic and social activites organized by VIU.
Among the students enrolled in the Globalization Program Fall 2016 term, three were selected:
Iuliia Amatuni, PhD in Anthropology at European University at St Petersburg
Thomas Ikeda, Bachelor in Finance/Data Analytics at Boston College
Ryun Song, Bachelor in International Liberal Studies at Waseda University
A symposium was organized this semester titled "Transcultural Game". Participants contributed a list of discussion topics inspired by their personal experiences.

Sharon Shilon, Bachelor in Psychology and Business Management at Tel Aviv University
Susann Kühn, Master in History of Art at Ludwig Maximilians Universität
VIU students and professors were invited to take part in this semester's workshop on the Personalization of Power.. The VIU workshop is an excellent opportunity for the participants to explore and discuss this issue with a participatory and interdisciplinary approach.

A key event for VIU professors and students of the Globalization Program is the Plenary Workshop. This semester they will play around and discuss the theme of Apocalypse.
The Tea2B, weekly informal academic conversations open to professors and students, provided the opportunity to meet authors and academics, as well as talk about relevant topics related to gender and the digital age.

Among the students enrolled in the Globalization Program Fall 2018 term, three were selected as recipients of the RED (Residency-Excellence-Diversity) Scholarship:
Heidi Khair, Master in History at Ludwig Maximilians Universität
Laura-Marie Schurer, Bachelor in Ethnology at Ludwig Maximilians Universität
Clara Van Gestel, Master in International and Criminal Law at KU Leuven
The RED scholars are expected to actively contribute in promoting and organizing co-curricular activities such as the Tea2B, informal conversations on key topics that involve students, professors and staff taking place on Mondays at prof. Luca Pes' office.
They will also contribute to the Globalization Program Plenary Workshop on Gender and collaborate in the editorial team, under the guidance of Prof. Luca Pes, selecting materials from the participants, documenting the work of the workshop, editing contributions and writing articles for the VIU website and magazine.

Anna Peterson, Bachelor in Computer Science at Boston College
Oxana Mroczek, Bachelor in Social Sciences at University of Lausanne
The RED scholars are expected to actively contribute in promoting and organizing co-curricular activities such as the Tea2B, informal conversations on key topics that involve students, professors and staff taking place on Mondays at prof. Luca Pes' office.
Their role in the editorial team, under the guidance of prof. Pes, is to document the activities and produce some follow up materials to be published on the VIU website and magazine.
"My commitment as a RED scholar in this quite exceptional semester has been extremely important for my VIU experience. I have felt very engaged with the community despite the physical distance. Especially with what concerns the VIU community platform, I have to say that it was a great learning experience both with regards to working as a team as well as with regards to the practice of online community work."
"We had to reshape the format of how Tea2Bs would work, as we all were behind computer screens and needed to see and access the email invitation. Additionally, we noticed how wonderful it isthat people can bond with each other over a shared experience as simple as pouring tea and sharing biscuits with one another."
"As RED scholars, the main aim remained the same: reunite people from different cultural background, the added value of the VIU experience, that is more than just academic."
